{"id":3762,"date":"2017-10-04T15:08:29","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T13:08:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transparence-cacao.com\/?p=3762"},"modified":"2023-04-14T15:14:25","modified_gmt":"2023-04-14T13:14:25","slug":"transparence-cacao-takes-part-to-the-2017-world-cocoa-day-in-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transparence-cacao.com\/de\/transparence-cacao-takes-part-to-the-2017-world-cocoa-day-in-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"Transparence Cacao takes part to the 2017 World Cocoa Day in Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>In preparation of the World Cocoa Day, starting point of the new production season in West Africa, the Chocolate Syndicate, which brings together the major players in the sector, including Transparence Cacao and some 4,000 chocolate manufacturers, \u2018met symbolically on 28 September 2017 at the Embassy of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire in Paris, the world\u2019s leading cocoa-producing country.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Patrick Poirrier, president of the Chocolate Syndicate, expressed the \u201ctriple challenge\u201d to come up with a \u201csustainable\u201d and fair trade chocolate to protect the cocoa sectors performances. Cocoa production \u201cmust be part of the fight against climate change by ending deforestation and developing agroforestry,\u201d he said. It must also \u201cwork for a better farmers\u2019 incomes\u201d and \u201ccontinue the struggle\u201d against \u201cthe worst forms of child labor\u201d. The commitments made by Cote d\u2019Ivoire in 2014 to \u201clead to zero deforestation cocoa\u201d imply a \u201cchange in the behavior of all actors in the sector\u201d, warned Ambassador Charles Gomis: farmers, agronomists, industrialists, distributors, consumer associations, and even states. Cocoa is a strategic culture for his country, with more than 800,000 farmers, accounting for 15% of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s GDP and more than 40% of export earnings, according to the ambassador.
