Transparence cacao, partner of the TRECC program

Jan 23, 2018

Transparence Cacao programmeI is involved in the education of children in rural areas through a school construction project, donations of school kits and awareness on children’s education. This commitment is reinforced today by its participation in the Targeted Education Program (PEC) of the Global Program “Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities (TRECC)” launched by the Jacobs Foundation.

The PEC project is part of a sustainability strategy by improving the education provided to children living in cocoa farming areas. More specifically, the Targeted Teaching Program is a remedial teaching approach that helps to measurably improve children’s basic reading and mathematics skills.

For the Jacobs Foundation, Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities (TRECC) is a bold initiative designed to improve the quality of education in Côte d’Ivoire through innovative approaches:

  • Provide policymakers with scientific data and research findings to strengthen education policy in rural communities;
  • Work in partnership with the cocoa and chocolate industry to intensify educational initiatives;
  • Collaborate with NGOs to develop and deploy effective educational models.

In the mid-term, the TRECC program aims to reach more than 200,000 children and adolescents by 2022. The long-term goal is to create an ecosystem that transforms education in Cocoa communities in Côte d’Ivoire.

TRANSPARENCE CACAO, as a partner and sponsor, will support the development of the program with financial and technical support by scaling up its PEC achievements in its supply network. This generalization will be gradual over a period of up to 2020. Field workers will be involved in this framework, and these teams will be responsible for raising awareness among producers and their families about the importance of Children schooling. These agents will also be able to assist in monitoring and coordinating the project in the field.

The TRECC program is managed by the Jacobs Foundation and jointly led by the Jacobs Foundation, the Bernard van Leer Foundation and the UBS Optimus Foundation, dedicated to innovations in the field of child and youth development.
