Carrefour has set itself the goal that all its own-brand chocolate bars will be sustainable and traceable from the farmers to the consumer, thus ensuring the fight against deforestation, the elimination of child labour in cocoa plantations, and better remuneration for farmers.
Since September 2024, Carrefour has taken a new step! In collaboration with Transparence Cacao, Carrefour is launching Fairy Choc bars, which help support a major cause: the economic empowerment of women in Côte d’Ivoire.
For each Fairy Choc bar purchased, 10 cents are donated to the Transparence Cacao program. This financial support contributes to the creation of Income-Generating Activities in order to improve the living conditions of women and their households.
The first two activities focus on food security through the processing of perishable goods.
Activity No. 1:
Support for women’s entrepreneurship in Baba: 32 women involved in cassava processing. This project supported a group of women by enabling them to process cassava into popular products such as attiéké and placali paste. Cassava is a widely grown tuber that deteriorates quickly after being harvested. Thanks to specific equipment (grinder, press, etc.), the development of an adapted workspace, and efficient processing techniques, the quality of cassava can be preserved.
The women thus create added value, reduce waste, and generate sustainable income from this local resource.
Activity No. 2:
A group of women from Etiénnékro brought together around tomato processing.
Project being launched, more details coming soon!
With Fairy Choc bars, Carrefour and Transparence Cacao offer more than just chocolate: they actively contribute to the social and economic transformation of an entire region. Together, let’s support the empowerment of women in Côte d’Ivoire.
