Carrefour has set itself the goal that all its own-brand chocolate bars will be sustainable and traceable from the farmer to the consumer, thus ensuring the fight against deforestation, the elimination of child labour in cocoa plantations, and better remuneration for farmers.

Today, Carrefour is taking a new step forward! In collaboration with Transparence Cacao, Carrefour is launching Fairy Choc bars, which contribute to supporting a major cause: the empowerment of women in Côte d’Ivoire.

For every Fairy Choc bar purchased, 10 cents are donated to Transparence Cacao. This financial support is dedicated to the implementation of two essential projects: the “Internat Espoir des Jeunes Filles” (Girls’ Hope Boarding School) and the “Cantine du Savoir” (Canteen of Knowledge).

Children from cocoa-producing households and communities are sometimes far from schools. Moreover, there is often a lack, or even absence, of accommodation and meals for children in this region. Therefore, the creation of the boarding school and canteen will accommodate young girls studying in nearby schools, helping to improve school enrolment and success rates.

To establish and supply the canteen allocated to the boarding school, Transparence Cacao, with Carrefour’s support, will set up Income-Generating Activities, owned and managed by women, such as food production, market gardening, and animal farming. This comprehensive project will bring numerous benefits:

IMPROVING SCHOOLING CONDITIONS and success rates for young girls and children.
INCREASING INCOME and financial independence for women.
PROMOTING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
CREATING JOBS (staff for the boarding school, canteen, and income-generating activities).
TRAINING YOUNG WOMEN in agricultural professions, with guidance and career support.
With Fairy Choc bars, Carrefour and Transparence Cacao offer more than just chocolate: they actively contribute to the social and economic transformation of an entire region. Together, let’s support the empowerment of women and the future of young girls in Côte d’Ivoire.
